Bebe Rexha revealed that polycystic ovarian syndrome caused her to gain more than 30 pounds amid fan backlash over her changing body.
“I went to the doctor last year — and a lot of women have this and they don’t know it — but they diagnosed (me) with PCOS, which is polycystic ovarian syndrome,” Rexha said on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” Thursday
She added that the hormonal disorder is “one of the main reasons why women gain weight and are obese.
“I literally jumped 30 pounds so fast, maybe a little more. But we just have to be positive and show people love.”
Last month, the 34-year-old singer, whose real name is Bleta Rexha, called out TikTok users for commenting on her weight, which she “always struggled with”.
While Rexha says she knows that criticism is just part of being in the public eye, the “I’m Good (Blue)” singer wishes to make people’s weight loss as important as possible.
“I was a lot thinner and I gained a bit of weight – that’s part of the territory. I’m not mad about it because it’s true, but when you see that kind of thing, it kind of pisses you off,” she told Hudson.
“You don’t know what someone’s going through, what they’re going through in their life, so it’s kind of hard. But I feel like we’re in 2023…we shouldn’t be talking about people’s weight,” she added.
Rexha has been very outspoken about her body image issues in the past, admitting in 2021 that she felt “embarrassed” about her body after indulging in the holiday season.

“I just weighed myself and I’m not comfortable sharing the weight because I’m embarrassed,” Rexha said on TikTok with tears in her eyes. “I just feel disgusting, you know, like in my own body.”
The Grammy winner even told fans at the time that she would probably take a break from social media because she wasn’t “feeling good in (her) skin.”
Thankfully, the singer regained her confidence and urged fans to “normalize” women weighing 165 pounds in lingerie-clad video a few months later.
