Celine Dion announced the cancellation of her “Courage World Tour” dates through 2024 and “will probably never tour again,” a source close to Dion told CNN Friday.
“She’s in a lot of pain,” the person said. “She does physical therapy daily.”
“Sorry to disappoint you all again,” read an announcement on the singer’s social media. “I am working very hard to build my strength back up, but touring can be very difficult, even when you are 100%. It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to get back on stage. I want you all to know that I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”
Dion postponed several shows in December after announcing she had stiff person syndrome, a condition, she said, that doesn’t allow her “to sing like I used to.”
The condition is “a rare, progressive syndrome that affects the nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord,” according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
“While we are still learning about this rare condition, we now know that it is the cause of all the spasms I have had,” Dion said at the time. “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulty walking and preventing me from using my vocal cords to sing like I used to.”
Tickets for her concerts are refundable from the point of sale.
