Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames left Friday-night’s game against the San Francisco Giants after being hit by a foul ball off Brian Anderson’s bat in the bottom of the second inning.
Adames was sitting atop the top step of the Brewers dugout along the first baseline, hanging from the rail, when Anderson put a throw from Giants pitcher Alex Wood directly toward the dugout.
Video from the third base of the field showed the ball appearing to hit Adames in the side of the head. Adames’ head had turned to the right before the throw was thrown; he then appeared to shift his sight back to the plate as Anderson swung.
Adames received the attention of Brewers medical staff in the dugout for about two minutes before retiring to the clubhouse for further treatment.
He was then taken to the hospital to be scanned, the Brewers said. Halfway through the competition, tests and evaluations were still being conducted.
Brice Turang relieved Adames at short stop in the next inning.
